Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi Escapes Unhurt After Plane Crash-Lands at Wilson Airport
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was among 39 passengers who survived a scary moment this evening when their plane crash-landed at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The aircraft, which is used for humanitarian work, hit the ground roughly, but luckily, no lives were lost.
There was a moment of high tension at Wilson Airport on Friday evening after a passenger aircraft, registration 5Y-BXI, failed to land normally and instead crash-landed on the runway. Among those on board was Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was traveling alongside 38 other passengers.
Aircraft Details
The plane is operated by ALS Limited, a company well-known for providing flight services to major international groups like the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The aircraft was returning from a routine humanitarian mission when the incident occurred.
While the cause of the accident is still being checked by experts, witnesses say the plane came to a sudden stop on the grass next to the runway. Emergency teams, including ambulances and fire engines, rushed to the scene immediately to help.
All Passengers Safe
The good news is that all 39 passengers and the crew members are safe. Senator Osotsi walked away without any injuries. Medical personnel at the scene checked all passengers and crew as a precautionary measure, though no serious injuries were reported.
"We are grateful that everyone is safe. This could have been much worse, but the quick response of the emergency teams and the professionalism of the crew ensured everyone was evacuated safely."
Investigation Underway
The airport was briefly closed to allow officials to move the damaged plane and make sure the runway was safe for other flights. An investigation has now started to find out exactly what went wrong with the aircraft.
Aviation officials from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) were on site to begin preliminary investigations. The aircraft has been towed to a secure location for detailed technical examination to determine the cause of the crash-landing.
