From Village Stages to Big Dreams: How the Omboko Milemba Talent Show is Transforming Youth in Vihiga

Every year, a wave of excitement sweeps across Vihiga County as young people prepare to step into the spotlight for one of the region's most anticipated grassroots events—the Omboko Milemba Talent Show. What began as a local initiative has rapidly grown into a powerful platform shaping the future of creative youth across the county.

Spearheaded by Jeremiah Omboko Milemba, the Member of Parliament for Emuhaya Constituency and National Chairman of KUPPET, the annual event is built on a simple but impactful idea: turning raw talent into real opportunity.

A Platform with Purpose

At its core, the talent show seeks to empower youth by giving them a stage to express themselves creatively. The 2025 edition embraced the theme "Empowering Change Through Art, Talent, and Technology," reflecting a broader vision of nurturing not just performers, but innovators and cultural ambassadors.

Originally focused within Emuhaya, the competition expanded in 2025 into a full countywide event, reaching all six sub-counties—Hamisi, Tiriki East, Sabatia, Vihiga, Luanda, and Emuhaya. This expansion marked a major milestone, opening doors for hundreds of young talents who previously had limited exposure.

Diverse Talent on Display

The competition celebrates a wide spectrum of creativity. Contestants compete in music—ranging from gospel and traditional to rap—alongside dance performances, spoken word, poetry, comedy, and even creative modeling. The diversity of categories ensures that every form of expression finds its audience.

Auditions, held across local schools and churches in late November and early December, bring the event closer to the grassroots. These early stages are often where hidden gems are discovered—young performers whose confidence and skill grow with each round.

A Grand Finale to Remember

The 2025 edition culminated in a vibrant grand finale held on December 30 at Senende Boys High School. The event drew large crowds and featured electrifying performances from finalists as well as guest appearances by celebrated artists, including Florence Andenyi, Harry Richie, and Peter Roshilo.

"Live music brings people together. There's nothing like the energy of a crowd enjoying great talent," said one organizer reflecting on the successful finale.

Beyond entertainment, the finale served as a cultural celebration—bringing together communities, leaders, and creatives in a shared appreciation of local talent.

Looking Ahead

Organizers are already thinking ahead, with discussions underway to integrate initiatives like Anyole Cultural Day into future editions. This move aims to deepen the connection between talent, heritage, and community identity.

As anticipation builds for the 2026 edition, one thing is clear: the Omboko Milemba Talent Show is no longer just an event—it is a movement.
